About the Role

The Senior Human Resources Generalist position manages all aspects of human resources duties for Anchorage, Dutch Harbor, and Kodiak, AK, and Tacoma and Renton, WA. These duties include planning, implementing, and maintaining human resources programs, policies, and corporate initiatives. Managing compliance, recruiting, and hiring, investigations, community involvement, and wellness initiatives with support from the Senior Human Resources Manager.

Develop and maintain a positive relationship with all team members along with excellent communication skills. Work as an employee advocate fostering effective employee relationships and engagement.

Provide administrative support including data entry, file management, DOT compliance, I-9 compliance, FMLA administration and tracking, benefits, job postings, recruiting, new hire orientation, and drug and alcohol testing program.

What you'll do:

  • Maintain confidentiality of all correspondence, personnel files, medical documentation, and any HR related matter.
  • Develop and execute new hire orientation and onboarding.
  • Provide support to our employees regarding questions about HR related items such as benefits, 401K plans and policies.
  • Provide support to employees and managers on work related matters.
  • Conduct and document employee related investigations.
  • Enter and manage requisitions in the Applicant Tracking System (Jobvite).
  • Ensure all employee files, medical files, and I-9's are in compliance with Federal, State, and Matson guidelines, including E-Verify.
  • Perform compliance audits and implement process improvement initiatives for future compliance.
  • Ensure State and Federal postings in all locations are current.
  • Support and participate in employee recognition events, community events, and wellness events.
  • Data entry processing in our HRIS system (Workday).
  • Administer learning programs and training initiatives.
  • Facilitate recruiting and staffing for all positions and locations in partnership with local management teams, including interviews, background checks, and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Represent Matson at Job Fairs or recruiting events.
  • Collaborate with SQES Manager regarding compliance with FMCSA/DOT requirements and manage the random drug and alcohol testing process for Anchorage, AK, as well as pre-employment testing for new hires.
  • Process unemployment inquiries and represent Matson on unemployment claims.
  • Manage Leave and FMLA requests for all locations.
  • Display professionalism when dealing with employees, applicants, customers, and vendors.
  • Support the launch of the engagement survey and follow-up on results.
  • Assist in developing and executing HR procedures and policies and provide guidance to our operation partners.
  • Work with management team on union issues by having a working knowledge of the union contracts.

You have these skills:

And these qualifications:

  • Eight or more years' experience in Human Resources performing multiple duties.
  • Experience in employee relations, compliance, policy administration, recruiting and onboarding processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws, including ADA, FMLA, FLSA.
  • Previous experience conducting workplace investigations, and dealing with sensitive, difficult, and confrontational issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to relate to diverse groups of employees in the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Previous experience with process improvement and developing and maintaining SOP's.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field is preferred.
  • SHRM certification or PHR/SPHR highly preferred.
  • Experience with union collective bargaining agreements highly preferred.
  • Experience with Jobvite and Workday highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for at least two hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to stand, bend, walk, kneel, reach, push, pull, talk, hear.
