About the Role

The Journeyman Mechanic will maintain and repair mechanical problems that arise with company powered and non-powered equipment, and perform those functions in a safe, efficient, and economical manner. Required to perform a full range of component overhaul and repair including inspecting, troubleshooting, welding, electrical component testing and/or replacing, and refrigeration diagnostic and repair as needed.

What you'll do:

  • Perform maintenance on wheeled commercial trailer chassis, industrial equipment, automotive, engines, special purpose and material handling equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on light and medium duty equipment.
  • Troubleshoot defects and malfunctions and determine the type or extent of the repair.
  • Perform technical inspections of equipment and determine the scope of the repair.
  • Perform welder duties using electric and wire fed, acetylene, and/or inert gas-shielded welding processes.
  • Perform body and fender related repairs.
  • Perform vehicle and chassis prep work for painting.
  • Modify, fabricate, and install equipment.
  • Meet and maintain vehicle brake inspector qualifications.
  • Meet and maintain commercial motor vehicle inspector qualifications.
  • Pass training for OSHA and company safety training including but not limited to: Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) and Hazardous Materials.
  • Operate all equipment, including diagnostic, to perform functions of the job.
  • Refrigeration, welding, diesel, heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
  • Certified in refrigerant, welding, forklift and top pick within 90 days, as well as, maintain those qualifications.
  • Perform other mechanic duties as assigned.

You'll have these qualifications:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
  • Computer skills required to the extent necessary to perform required job function.
  • Ability to work all shifts and any weekdays, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • This position is a casual position, no guarantee of a 40-hour work week.
  • Union members selected for an interview must bring a dispatch form from Union Local 959.
  • Non-union candidates selected for interview must become a union member if hired.
  • Current driving history going back a minimum of 10 years.
  • Must be able to pass a background and Fit for Duty Test upon job offer.

Mechanics are involved in constant physical activity while standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching crawling and reaching.

Lifting: 2-75 lbs. Various types of components, tools and equipment.

Carrying: 2-50 lbs. Various types of components, tools and equipment.

Pushing: 2-100 lbs. While drilling, cutting, removing and installing flooring.

Pulling: 2-50 lbs. Various types of components, tools and equipment.
