Corps/Department: Salvation Army Clitheroe Center

Reports To: Operations Manager/Assistant Clinical Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time/40 hours per week; Non-Exempt

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • One years' experience in the field of substance abuse, homelessness, or related field.
  • Current Alaska Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Map-reading ability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:

Under general supervision of the Operations Manager/Assistant Clinical Manager (OM) the Residential Driver accompanies and/or transports clients on approved passes, reports any unusual client behaviors to the OM, picks up program donations, mail, and client items. The Residential Driver must be willing to be flexible as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of or experience in client care in a clinical or medical setting.
  • Knowledge of cross-cultural issues.
  • Knowledge of peer support mentorship, advocacy, and recovery support
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Alaska driver's license with acceptable criminal history and driving records.
  • Have or be able to obtain and maintain basic First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Must be able to regularly lift to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative work environment and to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with peers, supervisors, clients, families, and visitors.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, observe confidentiality, remain self-motivated, and work with a minimum of supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Transport clients to approved passes.
  • Pick up program donations from various restaurants, food bank, and Central kitchen.
  • Pick up mail and deliveries from DHQ and Outpatient mailing address.
  • Drop off packages for delivery to Post Office, including UA packages.
  • Pick up/Drop off client items to and from Outpatient.
  • Daily inspection and check of air, water, oil, and other items necessary to maintain equipment in safe operating condition. Fuel vehicle daily and wash as needed.
  • Daily mileage log of all trips.
  • Follow all Salvation Army and Clitheroe Policies and Procedures regarding WEX Fleet Cards for gasoline refueling of the Clitheroe vehicles.
  • Regular review of vehicle maintenance schedule and inform the supervisor of needed vehicle maintenance.
  • Immediately report to the supervisor all accidents involving the vehicle, personal injury, or property damage. A complete written report on return to the project office. Keep accident reports in the vehicle at all times.
  • De-escalate clients in emergency situations using crisis intervention techniques, and immediately contacts supervisor and/or counselor.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete required trainings.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality regulations as well as 42 C.F.R., Part 2 and C.F.R., Parts 160 and 162 (HIPAA). Document client services in the electronic health records system.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Software-related Skills: Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook required; and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Work Environment: The work environment when not driving is located in a Residential treatment setting. Noise level is moderate.

Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions and must be comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills: Must be punctual, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and possess a desire to learn and assist those they interact with.

Driver Requirements: Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.

Sacred Boundaries and Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Check required by The Salvation Army for employment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate a telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to understand written information. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in darkness and during periods of inclement weather. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
